I never planned on working in the fitness industry, but looking back, all my experiences have made this a natural fit.

My mom put me in dance classes when I was young, and I actually hated it at first. Luckily, my mom made me stick with it and I eventually found myself competing in finals of national-level solo events through my high school dance team.

From Ballet to Judo I continued dancing in college, and also took up judo. I had always wanted to do martial arts, but it wasn’t something that “girls did.” I earned my black belt while studying in Japan and continued to compete locally and nationally through graduate school. It was in graduate school that I discovered CrossFit, which was the perfect conditioning supplementation to my martial arts.

Olympic Weightlifting After moving to California, I couldn’t find a dojo or nearby CrossFit that worked with my schedule, so I started lifting and doing CrossFit on my own in a regular gym. That’s where my first Olympic lifting coach found me trying to snatch and took over the reigns to my training. I stopped CrossFit to focus on weightlifting, and few years and coaches later, I medaled at national events.

All during this time, I was having trouble finding a job that really suited my personality and interests. From environmental consulting to market research, I finally decided that I should be trying to inspire people to love movement as much as I do.

How can my experiences help you?

I work as a trainer and coach at San Francisco CrossFit. Having changed focus through such a broad scope of pursuits give me a unique perspective on helping people reach a range of goals. I’ve also dabbled in aerial circus, rock climbing, pole dancing, and capoeria and hope to impart a pure love of movement and exploring what the body can do when asked in a reasonable way.
